Scene 1
We’re in a class room surrounded by candle light and a teacher is giving a chat before leaving a young persons event to the first of, what is hoped will be, an annual Christmas sleepover. The students are all in the Christmas pyjamas and onesies.
Mrs Potter
Now before Mrs Chales and I retire to the staff room we need to have a chat with you all about safety and behaviour.
Mrs Chales
This has been a truly wonderful idea to have this Christmas Eve sleepover in your Christmas night wear here in this classroom and indeed it very well could become an annual tradition.
Mrs Potter
At the moment we’ve decided to call the event the 2025 Christmas Dream Sleepover Club. And, very cleverly, for next year we’ve decided to call it…
Wait for it.
…the 2026 Christmas Dream Sleepover Club.
The kids show they’re sarcastic appreciation at such ingenuity
Mrs Chales
But 2026 can only happen if you are all well behaved this year and that there’s no shouting, no trouble and no damage whatsoever.
Mrs Potter
Victoria, as you know, is going to be the leader of the event so we're now going to get out of your way, but before we do, let us be the first to state our Christmas Dreams.
Mine is that you all have the most fantastic Christmas Eve evening you have ever had

And mine is that this is the first of many more to come.

Thank you, goodnight and we'll see you bright and early so that you can be collected and go off to your families to open your presents etc.

Well, after that, my Christmas dream is to get some new friends who know how to have fun.

I don't think we should allow Christine to come back. She's always trying to mess things up.

I don't agree. Sure she challenges us at times. But that isn't her trying to be difficult.
Toni
Oh really? Seems like she's trying very hard to be difficult to me.
Haley
By nature, Christine questions 'why?' to everything.
Though that may feel like she's trying to be a pain, we need people like her to make us think twice about what we're doing it and why we're doing it.
Jane
I'm with you Haley. The only difference between me and Christine is that I don't speak out.
Kyla and Christine walk back in
Victoria
Welome back Christine. Sorry if we upset you & I'm sorry for saying that you're on your own. Your not.
Christine
I'm sorry too. Thank you for having me back.
Victoria
Right, let's try again. We’re going to ask who wants to tell us their Christmas Dream. Who’s going to go first?

It’s only once the last person in the queue has answered her Christmas Dream that Victoria realises that Nadine is missing.

Hold on. Where’s Nadine. Has anyone seen her?
Everyone shakes their head. Victoria and the others start calling out and looking around
Someone pulls back a screen and we find Nadine slumped at a piano
Victoria
Nadine, what? Are you ok? Why did you hide yourself away.
Nadine
I thought I’d be ok tonight but it’s exactly a year since my best friend Angela left the country for good. Every Christmas Eve we would gather round the piano by her fireplace and sing songs. I so wish we could do it again. I miss her so much.
Victoria
Sorry to hear that Nadine & right now I think I can guess what you’re Christmas dream would be.
Excluding that? What is your Christmas Dream?
Nadine pauses deep in thought

Can I ask you all to help me. Christmas was our favourite time so I’ve written a song about how magical it used to be and how I feel right now. Could you all help me sing it?
Victoria
Of course. Everyone up for that?

At the same time as the others are agreeing to help, Christine says yes while rolling her eyes
